The 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage adroitly fulfills its role as a small urban car. Here, we have a genuine subcompact that’s both safe and dependable. With an MSRP under $15,000, the base model of the Mirage (the ES version with manual transmission) is actually the least expensive car in Canada.
Assembled in Thailand, the 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage has benefitted from a partial esthetic overhaul since 2021, notably featuring chrome accents on the grille and bumpers, lending the vehicle an extra touch of personality. The Mirage is available in three different versions (ES, SE and GT), all of which are four-door hatchbacks. For a car of its size, it offers a surprisingly roomy interior (3,846 mm in length and 1,665 mm in width) so that even those with a large build will feel at ease in the front seats. Meanwhile, the cargo area offers an impressive 1,331 liters of volume with the rear seats folded flat.
With this model, Mitsubishi promotes responsible frugality, an appropriate response given the current global economy. By integrating a modest powertrain, a 1.2 L inline-three naturally aspirated engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission (CVT is optionally available), the Mirage achieves average fuel economy slightly below 6 liters per 100 km in city driving. On top of this, Mitsubishi offers an excellent warranty: 5 years or 100,000 km on the powertrain and 7 years or 160,000 km against corrosion.
The 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage can weave in and out of the traffic without putting any undue strain on the vehicle’s occupants. In the base model, the Mirage’s passenger compartment notably comes standard with power windows, Bluetooth compatibility, a screen and USB ports. The SE and GT versions come standard with Lane Departure Warning, the Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake-force Distribution and Brake Assist, the Forward Collision Mitigation system with Pedestrian Detection and a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, all of which are optionally available on the ES version.
