We thought the Mitsubishi Lancer was gone forever, discarded in favor of the new SUV trend. Well, according to some information from the brand's manager, Briton Trevor Mann, the Mitsubishi Lancer may be back in the Mitsubishi lineup.
In an interview with the British media AutoExpress, Mitsubishi's CEO confirmed that the Lancer could well be reintroduced. He added that the latter would have its place in the compact segment.
However, he added that this new Mitsubishi Lancer could take a completely new design, but it would target the same customers.
The question therefore is about the new design that would have this Mitsubishi Lancer. Whether it remains in the same category and retains the same clients, but it sounds the follies should not be the same.
We can imagine that this new Lancer could be a little higher, offering a version with 5 doors perhaps. A bit like the e-Evolution concept.
Why not imagine Mitsubishi taking inspiration from Renault as he could already do with the new Mirage. One can imagine taking the Renault Talisman as an example. Classified as a luxury sedan, it would be a question of taking over elements to reduce production costs and thus offer a high-end finish, but always at the same price for the new Lancer.
The novelty could also lie in the electrification of this new Mitsubishi Lancer.
If we look at Mitsubishi's main development axes, we understand that the strategy is to develop the electrical range. Like the Outlander PHEV, the Eclipse Cross will also get a plug-in hybrid version, the new Mitsubishi Lancer could also be equipped with a hybrid engine.
Being only in a project phase at Mitsubishi, no date has obviously been announced.
